Youth Career Exploration Program

A partnership with east Hawai’i County high schools, the Arc of Hilo Career Exploration program offers young adults with special needs ages 16-22 years of age the opportunity to experience various work settings, meet new friends, and learn skills that will help you decide what you really like doing, and what you don’t.

For example, maybe you thought you’d like working outside, but you decide you don’t like the heat.  Or vice versa, you love being outside and dislike being cooped up in an office.  We’ve got over 100+ work sites in the community providing landscape, janitorial and laundry services.  If you have another interest, perhaps we can find an employer partner of your choice to help you gain the work experience you dream about, so when you graduate, you feel much more certain about what you want to do!

If you’re in high school and between the ages of 16 and 22, and want to start your career exploration journey, join our Career Exploration

Support Our Youth Program

Approximately one in 10 students in Hawai’i has a special need.  Many of them stay in school until age 22, as allowed, because they have no other options.  The Arc of Hilo wants to change this with the Career Exploration Program. We need help from our Ohana to raise funding for staff to serve students.
